Genetic Drug Reaction Testing

Pharmacogenetic testing is the alternative to "one size fits all" and "trial and error" prescribing. Knowledge of patient drug metabolizing gene variants, found in more than half of patients, can help determine the appropriateness and dosage of many of the most commonly prescribed drugs including most Antidepressants, Opioid Pain Medications, Beta Blockers and others.

Genelex is a pioneer in the field of human DNA testing, and was the first company in the world to offer direct-to-consumer DNA drug reaction profiles. Established in 1987, Genelex is a privately held corporation that provides comprehensive DNA testing services to enhance the health and safety of society. Genelex has a worldwide network of contract clients that offer lab services to meet the requirements for any DNA test.

Physician Benefits:

1. Minimize liability by reducing "trial and error" prescribing.

2. Individualized treatment for patients genetic make-up.

3. Keep current with the latest advances in genetic science.

4. Opportunity to build your practice.

Patient Benefits: (patients are given a report to review with your physican)

1. Personalized drug-drug or drug-gene interaction information.

2. Helps your physician optimize the safety and efficacy of prescription regimens.

Pharmacogentic or Drug Reaction testing identifies and classifies CYP2D6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP1A2 and NAT2 into their slow, normal, and ultra-fast metabolizing forms.

POOR METABOLIZER
No or very low levels of the liver enzyme, this can lead to toxic buildup of medications processed by this enzyme at standard doses.

INTERMEDIATE METABOLIZER
Slightly reduced levels of the liver enzyme, this may require reduced doses and can cause problems if you are taking more than one medication processed by this enzyme.

EXTENSIVE METABOLIZER
Normal levels of the liver enzyme.

ULTRA-EXTENSIVE METABOLIZER
Increased levels of the liver enzyme, this may cause medications at standard doses to process out so quickly that the desired medical benefit is not reached.
