Experts in Prescription Drug Withdrawal
We provide an all-natural tapering program to help you withdraw from Wellbutrin.
Wellbutrin was released in 1985, and the FDA approved the sustained release version of the drug. In 1997 Wellbutrin, under the name Zyban, was approved as a smoking cessation drug. By 2012 the U.S. Justice Department announced that GlaxoSmithKline agreed to please guilty with a $3 billion fine for promoting an unapproved use of Wellbutrin for sexual dysfunction and weight loss.
Wellbutrin is a psychostimulant that exerts its action on Dopamine and Norepinephrine. Dopamine performs a key role in the brain system’s reward-driven learning, and Norepinephrine is crucial in the fight-or-flight response by triggering the release of glucose, increasing heart rate and blood flow to the skeletal system.
While the prescribing information for Wellbutrin states tapering is not necessary, case reports reveal withdrawal symptoms do occur that include anxiety, irritability, aggression, mania, uncontrolled movements and mania. It is recommended to taper Wellbutrin to minimize withdrawal symptoms.

What is Wellbutrin?(Bupropion, Zyban)
Wellbutrin (Bupropion) is an atypical antidepressant with pharmacological action as a Norepinephrine Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor. Wellbutrin belongs to the chemical class of aminoketones and is similar in structure to some stimulants. This may explain why agitation and anxiety can increase in some patients, particularly at higher doses. It has also been approved as a smoking cessation aid. In 2007, Wellbutrin was the fourth-most prescribed antidepressant in the United States. Wellbutrin lowers the seizure threshold and its potential to cause seizures has been documented. This controversial side effect was responsible for its initial withdrawal from the market, but was found to be largely dose-dependent and approved. Abrupt discontinuation may result in withdrawal symptoms yet the manufacturer recommends dose tapering only if Wellbutrin was prescribed for Seasonal Affective Disorder and is not required if used as a smoking cessation treatment.
